Olympian Trevor White to Inspire Alberta's Next Generation of Champions
Albertaalpine.ca – From the Olympic slopes of Whistler, to the World Cup runs at Wengen and Kitzbühel, Canadian Olympian Trevor White has impressed his competition with skill, tenacity and drive. Now the 26-year old Olympian is sharing his experience and talent as a special guest coach for eighty (80) of Alberta’s top development prospects.
White, along with five of his teammates on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and the Alberta Ski Team headline the Alberta Alpine Legends Club Camp, three separate camps for the 80 athletes, ages 10-14 years old which takes place at Sunshine Village Ski Resort this weekend.
As one of Canada’s leading technical specialists in slalom, putting these young athletes through their paces is something he has always wanted to do. “I’m very excited about working with the coaching staff to put on a successful camp,” said White. “We’re so lucky to grow up in a province with great facilities, coaches, and events. For me, a product of this system, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to give back.’
Assisting White will be Kelly McBroom (Canmore/Banff Alpine), Stephanie Irwin (Calgary/Banff Alpine), Travis Dawson (Calgary/NATC), Erik Read (Calgary/Banff Alpine), and Cody Pedersen (Banff/Banff Alpine). This group of ‘Legends’ will work closely with the 18 coaches in attendance, to mentor the young athletes and promote skills development.
In addition to the Legends Camp, Alberta Alpine is also offering an entry level coaching session for FIS level athletes. As well, Alberta’s Canada Games prospect group camp will also be training at Sunshine, taking advantage of excellent snow conditions.
Alberta Alpine High Performance Director Jim Davis is excited about the upcoming events at Sunshine. “First off, I want to thank Trevor White and the rest of the ‘Legends’ for supporting this camp. In Alberta we’re extremely lucky to have a group of amazing role models for our young skiers to look up to. I would also like to thank Legends Club Coordinator, Joanna Magee and all the hard working coaches for making this season’s Legends Club events so successful this season. All the pieces are in place to have a great camp at Sunshine,” said Davis.
Legends Club, founded in 2008 by Thomas Grandi, is focused on providing world-class developmental opportunities for kinder aged athletes. The Legends Club camps are made possible by the generous support of 22 patrons who make an annual financial contribution.
